Pet friendly doors

My cats can never work if they want to be in, out or somewhere in between. They have the run of the house though, so we have placed pet doors all through the house on both the external and internal doors. Some doors can easily have a pet door added to them and in some doors it is nearly impossible and very expensive to have a pet door added. This blog has some tips on what to look for in a door if you have pets, to make sure that your new door is perfect for the whole family (including the furry members!).

3 Tips For Cleaning And Maintaining Your Blinds

Blinds are essential to any home's decor, providing style and function. They offer privacy and light control and can even help to regulate a room's temperature. However, like any home feature, blinds require regular care and maintenance to keep them looking and functioning at their best. Here are three valuable tips to help keep your blinds in good working order.

Dust And Clean Regularly

Regular dusting and cleaning are essential to keep your blinds looking fresh and free of dirt and grime. How often you dust and clean your blinds depends on their location and usage. For example, blinds in a high-traffic area or a kitchen may need to be dusted and cleaned more frequently than blinds in a rarely-used guest room.

You can use several tools and techniques to dust and clean blinds. For example:

  • Wood blinds: Use a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster to remove dust and debris from the slats. You can also use a damp cloth to wipe away any smudges or fingerprints.
  • Fabric blinds: Use a vacuum with a brush attachment or a lint roller to remove dust and debris from the fabric. Avoid soaking the fabric or using harsh chemicals, as these can damage the material or cause fading.
  • Aluminium blinds: You can use a dry microfiber cloth to remove the dust and stains. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.

Repair And Replace As Needed

Even with regular care and maintenance, blinds can sometimes experience problems such as broken slats or cords. In these cases, it's vital to repair or replace the damaged parts as soon as possible.

If you have basic DIY skills, you may be able to fix simple problems such as replacing a broken slat or re-stringing a cord. However, if the damage is more extensive or you are unsure how to fix the problem, it's best to seek the help of a professional.

It's also essential to replace blinds damaged or worn beyond repair. Not only will this improve the appearance of your window treatments, but it will also help ensure they function correctly.

Protect Blinds From Damage

There are several things you can do to protect your blinds from damage. For example:

  • Protect blinds from sunlight: Direct sunlight can fade or discolour blinds over time. Consider using blinds with UV-resistant coatings or pairing them with other window treatments such as curtains or shades.
  • Protect blinds from moisture: Moisture can damage blinds and even promote mould growth or mildew. To prevent mould, use alternatives, such as aluminium blinds in dump areas.
  • Protect blinds from pets: Pets can cause damage to blinds through scratching, chewing or getting tangled in the cords. You can avoid this by installing cordless or motorized blinds, using cord wraps or other cord management systems.
